BAMS Course

BAMS / Full Form Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery is a 5.5 years long graduate degree that covers the study of the integrated system of modern medicine and traditional Ayurveda. The basic eligibility for pursuing this course is that the students should have completed their Class 12 with Biology with at least 45-50% from a recognized board. BAMS Admission Process is centralized and is based on the marks obtained in the NEET exam. BAMS course duration also includes 1 year of internship, employed at hospitals or in clinics or research institutes.

BAMS Admission Process:-
Admission is done on the basis of NEET (National Eligibility cum Entrance Test). This exam is now compulsory for admission into many medical courses, including BAMS. After scores are obtained in the NEET, centralized counselling takes place which decides your place in a college based on your performance. Colleges may take personal interview round afterward to further screen the students

In order to purse BAMS degree, prospective candidates must fulfill the following criteria:-

  • Students should score atleast 45% in Class 12 from a recognized board
  • Physics, Chemistry and Biology in Class 12, as compulsory subjects

BAMS Entrance Exams
As discussed above, ayurvedic colleges take admission on the basis of NEET exam, followed by counselling process:-

  • NEET is considered a common entrance exam in courses such as MBBA, BDS, including BAMS. It is now a compulsory exam to secure admission in recognized colleges and institutes of medical field. After centralized counselling, admission is provided to students based on the obtained scores.

Study
  • BAMS course is mostly pursued by students who are really interested in the study and application of Ayurveda for different purposes but mainly in the health sector.
  • It includes the study of many healing properties of the Ayurveda, and its related aspects like history, concept, application, training and much more.
  • Apart from ancient teachings, it also includes the modern application of Ayurveda in physiology, surgical science, and medicines.
  • Therefore, BAMS course is perfect for students who want to make a career in Ayurveda science & industry in a variety of fields like research, drug manufacturing, clinical trials, business & management


Scope
  • Earlier, the only option after studying BAMS was to become a doctor in some government institutes or private institutes.
  • Nowadays, there are many wonderful opportunities in areas such as clinical practice, academics, research, administration, and drug manufacturing.
  • Also, many practitioners are developing interest in the wonders of Ayurveda to their patients for issues such as longevity, better mental health, and treatment of diseases such as diabetes, blood pressure, and even cancer.
  • Recent studies show that with proper research professionals, support and funding, there will be many advancements and new applications of this domain in modern medicine, like ayurvedic drugs for the treatment of life-threatening diseases which shall have little to no side effects in the treatment of different medicines.


BAMS Syllabus



BAMS course duration of 5 years and 6 months consists of syllabus including classroom training, practical training, workshops, conferences, etc., and 1 year of mandate internship in the fifth year. Sanskrit is taught throughout the course for better subject understanding.
The syllabus is made in such a way that has 3 Professionals of 1.5 years each, consisting of subjects such as:-

  • Ayurvedic Philosophy
  • History of Ayurveda
  • Toxicology
  • Anatomy
  • Physiology
  • General Surgery and para surgical techniques
  • Panchkarma, and others.

BAMS Jobs



Successful graduates of the course are hired in both government and private Ayurveda clinics for positions such as Ayurvedic Drug Specialist or may pursue private practice. Areas of employment for such professionals include the healthcare community, life sciences industry, pharma industry, etc.
Such graduates are hired in capacities such as Medical Representative, Ayurvedic Doctor, Sales Representative, Area Sales Executive/Manager, Assistant Claims Manager, Pharmacist, Jr. Clinical Trial Coordinator, etc.
